Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of Growth Hormone–Releasing Hormone (GHRH) that has been structurally modified to enhance stability and thereby prolong its half-life in the body. By mimicking the natural GHRH signals released from the hypothalamus, it stimulates the pituitary gland to increase endogenous growth hormone (GH) secretion and elevates serum insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels, thereby enhancing the body’s capacity for fat metabolism.
One of its most notable characteristics is its ability to selectively reduce visceral fat, which is the fat accumulated around abdominal organs. While reducing fat mass, tesamorelin helps preserve or even increase lean muscle mass, contributing to improved body composition. It is primarily used for the reduction of excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected patients with lipodystrophy.
